Supply List for Classic Shirt
Teacher: Amy Wierkiewicz
First Class:
Pattern: Archer Button Up Shirt in your size range. Note: there are two size ranges from which to choose.
Pattern trace material or tracing paper – we will trace the pattern in the size you need rather than cutting the original
Tape measure, pen/pencil, notebook, washable markers
muslin or scrap fabric to make a test garment
If you have a similar shirt and like the fit, bring/wear that to reference.
The focus of this class will be to determine pattern size, trace pattern, design and fabric selections and fabric preparation. There is not enough class time to make and complete the garment; time in class will be used to prepare you to be successful outside of class and answer any questions. There are several online resources from Grainline Studio too.
Basic Sewing Supplies (Pins, needles, scissors, seam ripper, tape measure, marking pen)
Sewing Machine in good working order. Always a good idea to clean, oil, put a new needle in before class. Bring the manual for the machine if you are not familiar with all aspects of the machine or if the techniques in class are new to you.
Homework: read pattern instructions, watch videos on Grainline Studio, select fabric, wash and press, complete any pattern prep/test garment not completed in First Class, gather additional supplies as listed below
Second Class:
Fabric (pre-washed), interfacing, buttons, thread
traced pattern, test garment
The focus of this class will be the components to construct the shirt. (Applying interfacing, collars, cuff, plackets, topstitching, button/buttonholes, hems) There is not enough class time to make and complete the garment; time in class will be used to prepare you to be successful outside of class and answer any questions.
