Supply List for Sew or Serge the Sinclair Bondi22 T-shirt

Teacher: Ann Mackowski

You do not have permission to do that

Pattern: Sinclair Bondi22 from www.sinclairpatterns.com
Print and tape together the pages before class OR I will place an order to have them printed and mailed before class. I will contact students 2 weeks before class to find out if they want a printed copy. The cost for this is $23 and includes the pattern and the printed paper copy. You have the option of having all sizes printed or a limited number of sizes for easier tracing. You must choose one height option – Petite, Regular or Tall

Recommended: Pattern Tracing Paper to preserve your pattern

Optional: Flared Sleeves Add-On or Puffed Sleeves Add-On – for printed pattern pricing on these, please check with Ann

Fabric:

For this t-shirt choose light to mid weight jerseys, French Terry, interlock and other cotton, rayon, polyester knit fabrics with at least 30-50% stretch. If you make this t-shirt with a mid weight sweater knit, sizing up would be recommended.

If you have any questions about how to determine stretch (or anything else) please contact Ann.

For best results, pre-wash your fabric before class. This is not absolutely required for poly fabric, but cotton, rayon or any other natural fiber will shrink, we want that to happen BEFORE you make a garment to your own measurements.

To calculate the amount of fabric you need, first, decide what size and style you are making. PLEASE choose your size based on this size chart, NOT what size you buy off the rack: https://sinclairpatterns.com/products/bondi-knit-classic-fitted-t-shirt-with-short-sleeves-pdf?_pos=1&_psq=bondi+22&_ss=e&_v=1.0  You need the amount of fabric for the Bodice and sleeves – add them together to get the total amount needed. (If you are using an add-on sleeve, you will have to calculate the yardage for your selected sleeve)

Bodice

(neckband, seam cover and bottom band can be cut with yardage if using the same fabric)

US0-US18 0.8 m / 1 yard
US20-US24 1.1 m / 1 1/4 yard
US26-US30 1.8 m / 2 yards (NOTE: all sleeve lengths can be cut with bodice yardage)

Sleeves

SPORTY SHORT SLEEVES 0.2 m / 1/4 yard
SHORT SLEEVE  0.3 m / 1/3 yard
ELBOW SLEEVE 0.45 m / 1/2 yard
3/4 SLEEVE  0.6 m / 2/3 yard
LONG SLEEVE 0.7 m / 3/4 yard

If using different fabric for bands
NECKBAND (all versions) 5cm / 2 in
BOTTOM BAND 13 cm / 5 in

This means that if I am making a size 14 shirt with long sleeves, I need 1 yard for the bodice, plus ¾ yard for the sleeves, for a total of 1 ¾  yards, because I can get all other needed pieces out of that yardage.

If I am making a size 20, I need 1 ¼  yards for the bodice, PLUS up to ¾ yard for the sleeves, for a total of up to 2 yards.

If I am making a size 26, I need 2 yards for the bodice, but I can get all included sleeve options out of the same yardage, so I still only need 2 yards total.

Sinclair patterns tend to estimate fabric with very little extra and give a cutting layout, so plan to be very careful cutting – and/or get a little extra!

Other Notions:

  • Clear elastic or twill tape to stabilize shoulder seams if your fabric is very stretchy
  • Thread – if you are using a serger, bring thread for your serger. We will use 4 thread overlock, so 2 needle threads and 2 loopers. Loopers can be serger thread or wooly nylon/wooly poly/Maxi lock stretch
  • Needles – appropriate needles for your serger, for sewing machine: knit, jersey, stretch.
  • Pins are necessary, clips are optional but helpful
  • Thread snips
  • Fabric shears or rotary cutter for cutting pattern pieces. If you will be cutting your paper pattern, bring paper scissors
  • Seam ripper
  • Optional – stiletto

Machine:

This pattern requires a sewing machine or Serger. A sewing machine is required if you are doing the v-neck option. If you would like to use your serger, we will have classroom sewing machines available for the parts that require a sewing machine.

If you are bringing a sewing machine, you will need a walking foot.

General machine notes: It is always a good idea to clean, oil (if your machine requires it) and put it a fresh needle before class. Bring the manual for the machine if you are not familiar with all aspects of the machine or if the techniques in class are new to you.

The classroom has large cutting mats, irons and ironing boards if you do not want to bring your own.  For an all day class you might want to pack a lunch (Aldi and Le Gong restaurant are in our strip mall as an alternative)

If you have any questions about the class or what to bring please contact Ann Mackowski at feltiefun@gmail.com.
