Supply List for Sinclair Nyoka Crossover Shirt/Dress

You do not have permission to do that
Pattern: Sinclair Nyoka from www.sinclairpatterns.com
Print and tape together the pages before class OR I will place an order to have them printed and mailed before class. I will contact students 2 weeks before class to find out if they want a printed copy. The cost for this is $23 and includes the pattern and the printed paper copy.
Recommended: Pattern Tracing Paper to preserve your pattern
Fabric:
Light to medium weight, well draping knit fabrics with at least 30-50% horizontal stretch and 30% vertical stretch. If you have any questions about how to determine stretch (or anything else) please contact Ann.
For best results, pre-wash your fabric before class. This is not absolutely required for poly fabric, but cotton, rayon or any other natural fiber will shrink, we want that to happen BEFORE you make a garment to your own measurements.
To calculate the amount of fabric you need, first, decide what size and style you are making. PLEASE choose your size based on this size chart, NOT what size you buy off the rack: https://sinclairpatterns.com/products/nyoka-knit-crossover-dress-pdf-sewing-pattern?_pos=1&_sid=b3ac6c525&_ss=r
You need the amount of fabric for the Bodice, sleeves and peplum – add them together to get the total amount needed.
Bodice and Sleeves:
Size 0-10:
Bodice only – 3/4 – 1 yard
3/4 sleeves – 1/2 yard
long sleeves – 3/4 yard
Size 12-28:
Bodice only – 1 1/2 – 1 3/4 yards
No additional yardage needed for sleeves
Peplum:
Size 0-8
Shirt – 12 inches
A line skirt, knee length – 1 yard
A line skirt, below knee – 1 yard
A line skirt, maxi length – 1 1/2 yard
Straight skirt – 1 yard
Size 10 – 28
Shirt – 3/4 yard
A line skirt, knee length – 1 1/2 yards
A line skirt, below the knee – 2 yards
A line skirt, maxi – 2 1/2 yards
Straight skirt – 1 1/2 yards
This means that if I am making a size 14 shirt, I need 1 3/4 yards for the bodice and sleeves, plus 3/4 yard for the peplum, total 2 1/2 yards.
If I was making a size 6 shirt with long sleeves, I would need 1/2 yard for the bodice, 3/4 yard for the sleeves, and 12 inches for the peplum – total 1 3/4 yards
Sinclair patterns tend to estimate fabric with very little extra and give a cutting layout, so plan to be very careful cutting – and/or get a little extra!
Other Notions:
- Clear or regular knitted elastic 1/4 inch (optional waist elastic)
- Clear elastic or twill tape to stabilize shoulder seams if your fabric is very stretchy
- Thread – if you are using a serger, bring thread for your serger PLUS a spool for the sewing machine (we will have classroom sewing machines available for those who are using a serger). We will use 4 thread overlock, so 2 needle threads and 2 loopers. Loopers can be serger thread or wooly nylon/wooly poly/Maxi lock stretch
- Needles – appropriate needles for your serger, for sewing machine: knit, jersey, stretch. There will be appropriate needles in the classroom machines, you only need to bring needles for your machine
- Pins are necessary, clips are optional but helpful
- Thread snips
- Fabric shears or rotary cutter for cutting pattern pieces. If you will be cutting your paper pattern, bring paper scissors
- Seam ripper
- Optional – stiletto
Machine:
This pattern requires a sewing machine. Serger is optional. If you would like to use your serger, we will have classroom sewing machines available for the parts that require a sewing machine.
If you are bringing a sewing machine, you will need a walking foot.
General machine notes: It is always a good idea to clean, oil (if your machine requires it) and put it a fresh needle before class. Bring the manual for the machine if you are not familiar with all aspects of the machine or if the techniques in class are new to you.
The classroom has large cutting mats, irons and ironing boards if you do not want to bring your own. For an all day class you might want to pack a lunch (Aldi and Le Gong restaurant are in our strip mall as an alternative)
If you have any questions about the class or what to bring please contact Ann Mackowski at feltiefun@gmail.com.
